About RateWatt

RateWatt makes US energy data accessible to everyone. We present electricity prices, generation mix data, and energy statistics for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Our Data Source

All data comes from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the statistical agency of the U.S. Department of Energy. The EIA collects, analyzes, and disseminates independent energy information to promote sound policymaking, efficient markets, and public understanding of energy.

What We Cover

  • Residential, commercial, and industrial electricity prices by state
  • Historical price trends over the last 10 years
  • Energy generation mix (solar, wind, gas, coal, nuclear, hydro, etc.)
  • State-by-state rankings and comparisons
  • National averages and benchmarks

How Often Is Data Updated?

The EIA releases annual electricity data, typically with a one-year lag. We refresh our database when new annual data becomes available.

Accuracy & Limitations

We present EIA data as reported, without modification. Prices shown are averages — your actual electricity rate depends on your utility, rate plan, usage patterns, and local regulations. Always check with your utility provider for your specific rates.
